COLORBOND® boundary fence with a concrete sleeper and matching gates.

This genuine Evergreen Exteriors Care project combined boundary fencing, a double driveway gate and a single pedestrian gate in one coordinated installation.

Verified project scope

Fence, base sleeper and two access points.

The completed Strathtulloh work shown here includes a COLORBOND boundary fence with a concrete sleeper along the base, a matching double gate for driveway access and a matching single pedestrian gate.

The photographs do not establish the fence length, gate widths, product colour, sheet height, lock type or project price, so those details are not inferred. Similar work is measured and quoted for the actual boundary, openings, ground levels and access.

Fence and gate planning

Plan the openings before the fence layout is finalised.

Quoting the fence, driveway gate and pedestrian gate together helps establish the post locations, clear openings, levels and access arrangement as one project.

Boundary and fence line

Confirm the property boundary, total fence runs, corners, changes in direction and any easements or structures near the proposed line. The owner should resolve the boundary before installation.

Double driveway gate

Show the clear vehicle opening, driveway width, ground fall, nearby walls and the space through which the gate would open. Vehicle position and practical access should be considered before the gate arrangement is confirmed.

Pedestrian access

Identify the path or side-access location, usable opening, desired swing direction and any latch or lock requirement. Nearby paving, garden edging, walls and services can affect the gate posts and clearances.

Base sleeper and levels

A concrete sleeper can be included below the fence, but it is not automatically a retaining wall. Soil retention, drainage and level differences need their own assessment and must be identified in the agreed scope.

Before requesting a quote

Five details that make a fencing enquiry more useful.

1. Approximate measurements

Provide each fence length, preferred height and approximate clear width for every gate. Final site measurements are confirmed before materials or fabrication are finalised.

2. Complete-area photographs

Send wide photos of the full fence line and both sides of each proposed opening, plus close-ups of slopes, level changes, paving and obstacles.

3. Existing conditions

Identify the existing fence, posts, gates, concrete, landscaping and anything that must stay, be removed or be worked around.

4. Access and removal

Show how materials can reach the boundary and whether old-fence removal is required. Narrow access, disposal and difficult ground should be included in the quotation request.

5. Sleeper and gate requirements

State whether sleepers are requested, where gates are needed and whether the gate is for people or vehicles. Mention preferred latch, lock or manual-gate requirements without assuming they are included.

Owner checks

Resolve neighbour and approval requirements before work starts.

For a dividing fence, Victorian Government guidance explains the process for discussing the work, obtaining quotations and using a formal Fencing Notice when required. The owner should confirm the boundary, proposed material and height, cost-sharing arrangements and written agreement before installation. Read Fencing in Victoria.

Melton City Council states that owners and occupiers are responsible for checking whether a planning permit applies to their proposal. Zoning, overlays, fence location and other property controls can affect the result, and planning approval is separate from a building permit. Use Council's planning-permit guidance or obtain written advice for the actual property.

If a proposed gate or fence affects Council land, a road reserve or access across Council land, separate approval may apply. Do not assume a private-property fence quotation includes Council approval or road-reserve work.

Frequently asked questions

Can a COLORBOND fence quote include driveway and pedestrian gates?

Yes. Evergreen Exteriors Care can assess the boundary fence, double or single gate openings, sleepers and removal requirements together. The written quotation confirms the included fence and gate scope for the property.

What should I measure for a double driveway gate quote?

Provide the approximate clear opening, desired gate height and photos showing the full driveway entrance, adjoining fence, ground fall, nearby walls or services and the space available for the gate to open. Final dimensions are confirmed for the site.

Does a concrete sleeper under a fence act as a retaining wall?

Not automatically. A base sleeper can form part of the fence arrangement, but soil-retention, drainage and level differences require separate site assessment. The quotation should identify the agreed function and scope.

Do neighbours need to agree before a dividing fence is replaced?

Victorian dividing-fence rules can require discussion, agreement or a formal Fencing Notice. Property owners should resolve the boundary, fence proposal and any cost-sharing process before work begins.

What information helps with a Strathtulloh fencing quote?

Send the property suburb, approximate fence lengths and heights, gate opening sizes, preferred material, sleeper requirements, clear photos of the full boundary and access, and whether the existing fence needs removal.

See Evergreen's western Melbourne fencing service, compare fencing and gate options, or send the project details.
