Sheet height is different from the total height once sleepers and site levels are considered. Confirm the intended finished height in your quotation. Custom gates, different specifications and site-specific work are quoted separately.
How much would a 20-metre fence cost?
A 20 m fence with standard 1.8 m sheets and no sleeper has a guide fencing cost of $2,662 including GST. Our online estimator adds a $110 delivery allowance including GST, giving an example total of $2,772 including GST. This example excludes old-fence removal, gates, excavation and other site extras. It is a budgeting example, not a fixed quotation.
Is removal of the old fence included?
No. Old-fence removal is a separate quoted item. The current website guide is $33 per metre including GST ($30 excluding GST), subject to the fence, access and agreed scope. For example, removing 20 m would add $660 including GST at that guide rate. Ask us to confirm what will be removed and taken away before accepting the quote.
What can change the final price?
- Height and sleepers: taller sheets and additional sleepers change the materials and installation requirements.
- Access and ground: narrow access, rock, excavation, slopes and difficult digging need a site assessment.
- Gates: confirm opening width, gate style and hardware; custom or driveway gates need their own quote.
- Other work: removal, retaining work, service locating, delivery and any required approvals should be clear in the written scope.
What does supply and installation include?
A clear written quotation should identify the selected COLORBOND sheets, posts and rails, any wooden sleepers, installation and the agreed gate hardware. Old-fence removal, difficult excavation, retaining work, special locks, custom gate fabrication and other extras are included only when they are listed in the scope.
How do COLORBOND and timber fencing compare?
COLORBOND uses steel panels to create a solid, low-maintenance boundary. Timber paling fencing offers a traditional appearance and can be finished with plinths, wooden sleepers and capping. What sleeper and fence-height options are available?
The current guide covers 1.8 m COLORBOND sheets with no sleeper, one 200 mm wooden sleeper or two 200 mm wooden sleepers. With 2.1 m sheets, the current rates are $143 per metre + GST with no sleeper, $154 per metre + GST with one 200 mm wooden sleeper, or $165 per metre + GST with two wooden sleepers. Sheet height and finished fence height are not always the same once sleepers and ground levels are considered.
What gate options can be included?
A standard COLORBOND pedestrian gate is currently $660 each + GST. Custom pedestrian gates, double gates, driveway gates and sliding gates need site measurements and a separate quotation. Send photos showing the full opening, posts, ground clearance and available access.
Can the fence retain soil as well?
Tell us about any level difference before we quote. A sleeper beneath a fence does not automatically make it a suitable retaining wall. Where soil needs retaining, plan the wall and fence together. Our retaining-wall guide explains the main considerations.
How should I compare COLORBOND fencing quotations?
Compare like with like rather than looking only at the lowest per-metre figure. Check that each quotation uses the same fence length, sheet height, sleeper quantity, gate and lock specifications, removal and disposal scope, delivery allowance and GST treatment.
- Fence system: confirm the sheets, posts, rails and sleeper arrangement.
- Site work: check whether access, excavation, rock, slopes and difficult digging are included or provisional.
- Removal: confirm whether the old fence will be dismantled, loaded and taken away.
- Gates: compare the opening size, posts, hinges, locks and any custom fabrication.
- Total price: check delivery, GST and every listed extra before comparing the final totals.
A lower advertised rate may cover a different height or exclude work required at your property. The written scope is what makes two quotations genuinely comparable.
